Pedal steel guitar teacher UK
Beginners welcome for private tuition
If you want to have a go at learning this wonderful instrument, I offer pedal steel guitar lessons from my family home in North-East London or online (using a multiple camera setup). E9th pedal steel lessons are priced affordably with flexible timings available to suit you. I recommend a 2hr in-person introductory session for complete beginners. A steel guitar can be provided if you don’t have your own or want to travel without. No experience necessary.
Gear for hire
If you need a pedal steel to practice on while you are testing the waters, or waiting for your first deal to come along, I have a single-neck guitar to rent to students for as little as £10 per week, as well as other gear you can hire if needed - please check for availability. I’m also happy to advise on purchasing your first instrument.
Intermediate players
Many players have some mileage on steel guitar but want to break out of a rut, improve their technique or study something specific. I can help you get on track. There is no substitute for one-to-one steel guitar lessons when it comes to making real improvements.
Lesson plans
My E9th tutorials are tailored to your needs and the styles of music you enjoy. I provide detailed and clear instruction from a complete beginner’s curriculum to studies on specific songs, player styles or techniques. Tab and written summaries accompany each lesson.
Testimonials
“Jon is a great pedal steel teacher. His knowledge and understanding of this wonderful and infuriating instrument are more than matched by his patience, encouragement and the clarity of his teaching methods. I can honestly say, I now feel like I’m a Pedal Steel Player. Thanks Jon!” – Dave I., Sussex
“Jon kindly invited me over to his house for a lesson. He was a great tutor, and super friendly. It was an added bonus that he rented me his MSA to practice with at home which is a lovely instrument.” – John D., South London
“From the perspective of someone who has played guitar including alternative tunings and 'bottleneck' styles all of his (lengthy) adult life, progressing into the realms of pedal steel was a step too far without expert guidance. Jon communicates the necessary techniques, skills, and patience, to make the learning experience rewarding and enjoyable. Lessons are structured yet flexible to accommodate ability level, and successfully navigate theory while providing practical support and encouragement. Through Jon, I have been introduced to classic pedal steel phrasing and styles and encouraged to research the history of the instrument and the players and most importantly to continue my interest and desire to learn and improve. I wholeheartedly recommend anyone interested in pedal steel to seek out Jon as a tutor” – Jeff S., South London
“I am a beginner pedal steel player learning online. From the start, Jon has been able to understand my abilities, then apply just the right level of expectations to help me to progress to the next level, without it being overwhelming or too demanding. Through his experience and knowledge he is able to provide helpful tips that help unlock complex theory into more simple logic. Highly recommended and five stars *****” – Adam L., Peterborough
